Inside PGN...
Since we are now officially in PGN it occurred to me to explain to those who aren't adopting from Guatemala what this actually means.
PGN stands for ProcuradurÃa General de la Nación. The case goes into PGN after the social worker from Family Court gives a favorable opinion. PGN checks for missing documents, another birth mother interview will be done, they will review the case and (if all is fine) give it the clearance for adoption. If something is found missing or if something is incorrect a "previo" will be issued and the case will be "kicked out" of PGN. The attorney will get things corrected and re-submit. The duration in PGN can take anywhere from about 6 weeks (if no previos are issued) to years. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason on how things are processed during this part of the adoption. Some people are getting out of PGN really quick with no previos - others aren't as lucky and have been kicked out more than once.
After your case receives clearance from PGN, the attorney drafts the Notarial Decree of Adoption, another DNA test will be done, a new birth certificate will be issued, and a Visa will be issued for your child. A US Embassy appointment will be made (when we receive notification of this, we will travel to Guatemala for "Gotcha Day") which will be the final step of the adoption. After the Embassy appointment we will get all of the official documents - including a new birth certificate that has his name as Eduany Otoniel HUFF. Right now it is taking approximately 8 weeks from the time the case is released from PGN until the US Embassy appointment.
So basically - we still have no idea when Otoniel will come home, but at least we are progressing. We are still praying he will be home by Christmas (or sooner).
